Niki Moosavi is a freelance cellist based in London. She has a love for chamber and orchestral music and a passion for making classical music more accessible.
Niki is the founder of 97 Ensemble, a chamber group aiming to raise awareness that 97% of women aged 18-24 experience sexual harassment in the UK. They champion works by Women composers and give performances at women and children’s refuges in collaboration with Solace Women’s Aid, and have gone on to play at the Houses of Parliament. The ensemble also gives public performances at venues such as the Elgar Room, St James’s Piccadilly and Fidelio Café. In addition to 97 Ensemble, Niki regularly performs with the Chineke! Orchestra, highlights of which include performing in the Concertgebouw and Elbphilharmonie.
Born in the UAE to Iranian parents, she moved to the UK to study at the Purcell School for Young Musicians. She holds a First Class degree from the Royal College of Music and a Masters degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Niki began learning the cello in group lessons at school and is incredibly thankful to her school's encouraging music department, as well as workshops organised by the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation, which nurtured her love for music and the cello from a young age. She is passionate about passing on this love to the next generation and teaches cello both in schools and privately.
